In today’s 1 min tip, I’m waking you through a simple tool you can apply right now to keep your goals on the front burner= fast achievement.
We are thrown 1000 different facts, situations, feelings, assignments, thoughts, etc, every single day. Which makes remembering to check in and stay focused on our goals nearly impossible.
How many times have you said to yourself ‘this time, I’m taking my weight loss goal seriously.’ Only to return to consciousness mid lunch with half a grilled cheese sandwich in your hand.
Our feelings, cravings, energy, and mood all love to derail us. They perch themselves on the forefront of our minds and push our goals way to the back.
Sitting on the couch is MUCH easier then going to the gym. Grabbing a snack is an excellent way of distracting yourself when bored and meeting a friend for dinner is way more fun then finishing your assignment.
Temptations like these arise and all of a sudden we’re like a bargain shopper on black Friday. The more distractions from facing real life, the better.
But when we are reminded of our goal and see it over and over again throughout our day, it stays at the forefront of our brain. It becomes a main focus and we start to incorporate daily habits and routines to support it.
So how do we consistently remind ourselves of our goal?
I wish I had some scientific, extraordinary piece of equipment or tool to give you. But this tip will cost you a total of .99 cents and 5 minutes of your time.
Tip #1:
Post It’s
Yup. You read that right. Good ol’ fashioned Post It’s.
Write no more then 3 goals, empowering mantras, reminders to reflect, sayings or something that you know will keep you on track on different Post It’s. Then place those Post It’s somewhere you’ll see periodically throughout your day.
Here are a few examples:
Trying to quit mindless snacking:
Post it reads: Self check in. Are you actually hungry or bored?
Placed: On the fridge
Looking to be more active:
Post it reads: Have you got your 10 thousands steps in today? Let’s move now. Couch later 🙂
Placed: On the TV or couch
Looking to speak to yourself more kindly:
Post it reads: Hey you! You are truly incredible. I am so proud of you.
Placed: On the mirror
Working towards a promotion:
Post it reads: You got this! Stay focused, work hard, great things are coming.
Placed: On your computer or in your office
Tip #2
Setting reminders on your phone
If you’re nervous about putting Post It’s around your house or office setting reminders in your phone is going to be your best friend.
Through the Reminder in your phone, you can set multiple reminders to pop up throughout the day. This is great for wanting to increase your water intake, move the body every hour or so and remind you of your current goal.
I recommend setting a reminder first thing in the morning before you head to work, one in the afternoon and one in the evening before you hit the hay.
Having these little reminders throughout your day will keep the motivation strong ensuring you’re making goal supporting goals throughout your day.
